tales of a housecat

Saturday

Upstairs.

I like to hang out here sometimes. That Guy is in the room today, blocking the route to my preferred chair location, though - he was eating stuff off the floor again. Peeking around the corner of the newel post lets me prepare for the unexpected (ie: I can puff my tail up at That Guy, now that I've seen him). It also comes off as darned cute, and increases the chance of treats. Once I get into the room, I'll look down the stairs to see if anyone is following me. Sometimes they like to stand here, and poke their hands through these posts - they get me riled up thinking there's an actual mouse or bird in the house. Once I do get into my chair, this is what I can survey. Not a bad view, and quite comfy; it is also very close to their sleeping mat, so I can jump on their soft parts in the night. Finally, when I get really frisky, I'll hang around down here. A bit dusty, surely, but the enclosed space gives the illusion of safety, and I can see them coming a mile away.

I just had to respond to your comments about safety and view. I personally favour a very high perch in my place. From there I can survey almost the whole apartment, excpet for the entrance; but the sound of the door opening and closing gives me fair enough warning. Plus my stupid sister doesn't like it up here so I get a little peace and quiet.
